Articles

Before I began writing and editing books full time, I wrote for magazines and newspapers. My byline has appeared in Woman's Day, Working Mother, Parents, Smithsonian, The New York Times, and many other publications. I served as a contributing editor at Working Mother for seven years, writing their monthly health news column. Below are two of my favorite articles and one personal essay.

The Silent Killer
Ladies' Home Journal
Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer of men and women. This article, which won a prize from the American Medical Association, profiles a patient fighting this deadly disease.
Behind the Cartoonist Smithsonian Your favorite cartoon may have been dreamed up by a gag writer – someone who sells captions to cartoonists. Four top gag writers describe their usually-invisible profession.
Musclebound
Woman's Day and Barnard Magazine
What happens when a sedentary middle-aged woman (me) takes up weight lifting? This personal essay describes the surprising effects – emotional as well as physical – of getting strong.
